The Hærvejen hostels are a unique form of accommodation for those who are dedicated Hærvejen travellers or pilgrim walkers, whether on foot or by bicycle. The hostels were established in 2008 and later, inspired by the albergues along the Camino in Spain. At the hostels, you can meet like-minded travellers with whom you can share your journey experiences.

The hostels are open in June, July, and August. Some hostels remain open for longer periods.


Please contact the individual hostels to check whether they are open outside the main season.

General information about the HærvejsHerberger:

  • Overnight stay costs DKK 100–200 per person. Payment is made in cash or via MobilePay.
  • Guests choose sleeping places in the order of arrival. Groups may announce their arrival in advance. At some hostels, reservations are possible.
  • Opening hours are typically from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. the following day.
  • Bunk beds are provided; guests must bring their own sleeping bag and sheet.
  • Kitchen facilities with cooking equipment are available, as well as laundry facilities, toilets, and showers.
  • Dogs are not permitted at the hostels.
  • Food and beverages can be purchased in limited quantities at several hostels.
  • A Hærvejen Passport can be purchased at all hostels for DKK 50.

On the stretch from Rødekro to Viborg, there are 14 Hærvejen hostels spaced 15–25 km apart, making them well suited for long-distance hikers on the Hærvejen.


On the stretches from Viborg to Frederikshavn and Hirtshals, the distance between Hærvejen hostels is greater, and long-distance hikers will need to supplement with youth hostels or similar types of accommodation.
